TP-Link has just launched a brand-new Wi-Fi 6 travel router designed for people on the go who want secure wireless networking, whether they are working in a hotel bedroom or a coffee shop.
The TL-WR1502X offers Wi-Fi 6 speeds and includes robust security features that protect your data. This pocket-sized device is built for digital nomads and it’s small enough to fit in a pocket or work bag. Sadly, it doesn’t come with a carry case, which I think it should but a third-party case should be available from Amazon.
Finnish telco vendor Nokia added a 5G fixed wireless access outdoor receiver and indoor gateway with Wi-Fi 7 to its growing portfolio of FWA broadband access products. The new solutions support a broad range of 4G and 5G bands including Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS).
Nokia's expanded portfolio helps advance 5G FWA services in North America.
The new Nokia FastMile 5G receiver features antennas (up to 10 dBi) in a compact design that can be self-installed by the consumer on the outside of a window, wall, balcony, or pole. With 4 carrier aggregation and up to 300MHz of bandwidth, the 5G receiver maximizes throughput in locations where signals may be weak. Nokia’s new FastMile indoor 5G Gateway 12 improves capacity and coverage by up to 35% using high gain antennas (up to 8 dBi) and eight receiver antennas. The gateway comes with up to 200MHz of spectrum support to enable high-speed broadband access over the 5G network. It also uses tri-band Wi-Fi 7 to extend 5G speeds throughout the home. The FastMile 5G Gateway 12 is powered by Nokia’s Corteca software, which supports value-added applications embedded in the device, cloud-based Wi-Fi optimization, and Wi-Fi device management based on open industry standards and EasyMesh.

FIBER CONNECT, NASHVILLE — Alan Davidson, Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), kicked off today’s opening session at the Fiber Broadband Association’s annual convention. He told an audience of about 5,000 attendees that the agency is going to put out a guidelines document in a couple of weeks that will outline the use of alternate technologies in Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) projects.

Of course, NTIA stated from the beginning that fiber is its preferred technology for BEAD projects. But in cases where that isn’t economical, other technologies such as licensed wireless or coaxial cable may be approved for BEAD funds. Today, Davidson said, “In some circumstances states might even be able to use unlicensed wireless.”
Cal.net, a provider of TV, phone, and high-speed broadband services from Bakersfield to Redding, CA, has announced the deployment of a 6 GHz fixed wireless access network following the recent approval by the FCC for outdoor use of 850 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band.

“At Cal.net, we are dedicated to bridging the digital divide throughout our California service territory,” said Jack Barker, CEO of Cal.net. “The deployment of Cambium Networks’ 6 GHz technology will enable us to provide reliable, high-speed broadband to underserved regions throughout the Central Valley and Sierra Foothills.”
Cal.net is using Cambium’s ePMP 4600 platform, which supports up to 120 subscribers per sector, MU-MIMO and beamforming capabilities, and capacity of up to 4 Gbps per sector.
DigitalC kicked off in January an 18-month plan to construct a citywide FWA network in Cleveland. The network, which runs on Tarana’s next generation FWA platform, is funded by around $30 million in state and federal funds along with $20 million from private donations, said DigitalC COO Jose Valdez.
Deploying fixed wireless in a large city comes with some challenges. So, DigitalC wants to ensure it doesn’t bark up the wrong tree (literally).
Cleveland’s dense tree canopy is a “significant obstacle for signal propagation,” Valdez told Fierce, as trees absorb, block and scatter radio waves.
Tarana’s tech employs a few tactics to combat the foliage. For instance, it uses beamforming to focus signals in specific directions and it can adjust the signals based on environmental conditions – not only trees but also temperature and moving objects.

In the fast-paced world of telecommunications, the evolution of Wi-Fi technology represents a significant leap forward in connectivity and performance. Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7 are at the forefront of this revolution, each bringing unique advancements and capabilities to the digital landscape of North America.
Internet service providers can no longer fiddle with how quickly — or not — customers are able to browse the web or download files, the Federal Communications Commission ruled Thursday.
The reversal also paves the way for a legal fight with the broadband industry. The development is the latest in a years-long feud between regulators and ISPs, with the former arguing that protections are necessary to ensure all websites are treated the same, and the latter rejecting the rules as government overstep.
